Governing mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, congratulates Professor Sauter (UdK) on his design awardJoachim Sauter, professor at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), has received the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2010. The governing major of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, congratulated the 50-year-old professor on this honour. Wowereit: “This award shows that Berlin is still the capital of design in Germany. Our city provides an atmosphere conducive to creativity, with orientation towards the future. In particular, it should be emphasised that the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany highlights creative achievements between art and industry. The presentation of the award to a Berlin professor also accentuates the city’s openness to the use of new technologies in the field of design.” Culture, technology and industry represent a new harmony in design, the mayor went on to say, and this develops a surprising aesthetic quality in Sauter’s works. The jury awarded gold in the category of communications design to Sauter’s “kinetic sculpture” from the BMW Museum Munich. The Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany is presented annually by the Federal Ministry of Industry and Technology in collaboration with the Design Council.
