Institutional Context
The Cooperative Dance Education Centre - Pilot Project Berlin is a new educational program for contemporary dance and choreography in Berlin. The centre is based organisationally at the two Berlin art universities, the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) and the the University of Drama "Ernst Busch“ (HfS). A close cooperation partner is also the network TanzRaumBerlin/ Uferstudios GmbH.
The aim of the centre is, first of all, to realise a pilot project that has been arranged into several phases over a period of four years: an initial research phase, which began in April 2006, has been looking into contents, as well as new forms of teaching, learning and organisation for the course, which are oriented towards the ongoing developments, questions and requirements arising from artistic practice, which do justice to the changing role of dance artists and which can provide new impulses for a creative and critical dialog with and about the body with the complex implications of its aesthetic, social and cultural contexts.
The results will be put into practice and developed further in a test run of a Bachelor and a Master course of studies, and then evaluated before beginning the regular running of the course. A course structure that is as flexible as possible should be guaranteed, so that the course can also be remodelled and designed in the long run.
The city of Berlin, with its diverse cultural landscape and the growing number of internationally renowned artists who live and work here is an excellent location for a concept like this.
