Leeds International Piano Competition 2018 First Round – Wettbewerb

Anna Tsybuleva, winner of 2015 Leeds International Piano Competition

Simon Wilkinson

For the first time in its long history, the Leeds International Piano Competition comes to Berlin for the First Round.

Since its beginnings in 1963, ‘The Leeds’ has discovered the world’s most exciting pianistic talent and has brought the artistry and technical brilliance of young pianists to audiences for more than 50 years. Past winners and finalists include some of the biggest stars of the piano world, including Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, András Schiff and Mitsuko Uchida.

Each pianist will give a 25-minute recital for a chance to go through to the Second Round and Finals in Leeds, UK, in September 2018. With other First Round heats taking place in Singapore and New York, more than 60 of the world’s most exciting young pianists between the age of 20 and 29 are competing for the chance to win generous cash prizes, a management deal, a debut recording and the opportunity to perform with some of the finest orchestras in the world. Forty of these pianists will compete in the Berlin First Round, due to the high proportion of applicants living or studying in Europe.

Tickets for these events are free, making this is an incredible opportunity to hear some of the future stars of the international piano stage.
