FAQ CampusCard

Which functions does the CampusCard have?

  • Student ID
  • “Mensa-card” of the Studierendenwerk Berlin incl. electronic wallet for all payment functions which can be used with the stand alone mensa card.
  • Optical strip with the validity and the student ticket
  • Library ID for the university library (this function is not yet possible)

Why is the CampusCard not yet usable as a library card?

In order to be able to use the CampusCard as a library card, the technical prerequisites must first be created in the university libraries of TU Berlin and UdK Berlin. Until these are in place, a library card will continue to be required, which can be applied for using the following online form.

Who can get a CampusCard?

Every student at the UdK receives the CampusCard in the course of the changeover.
FCirst-year-students and newly registered students will receive the CampusCard after their enrolment.

How does the student ticket work?

The ticket is printed on the back of the card. The strip always includes two semesters, so that there is no fixed date for the imprint. You can validate your card appr. 5 working days after you payed the semester fee. After the validation the strip will contain the new and the current semester.

In the campus management portal my.udk you can check whether you have already been re-registered so that the update can be carried out.

The update can be carried out within the re-registration deadlines (incl. grace period).

Examples:
If the semester fee incl. semester ticket for the following semester has been paid, the card would have the following imprint.

01.10.xx - 31.03.xx Semestert. Berlin ABC
01.04.xx - 30.09.xx Semestert. Berlin ABC

If you are exempt from the semester ticket:

01.10.xx - 31.03.xx Winter semester
01.04.xx - 30.09.xx Summer semester

How do I store the CampusCard?

Damages to the card can be avoided trough normal handling. To ensure that your card lasts your studies the following guidelines are recommended:

  • Protect the card against smudges and scratches
  • Do not bend the card
  • Protect the card from extreme temperature changes and direct sunlight
  • Keep away from magnetic fields

How much does the CampusCard cost?

The first card is free of charge for every student. Follow-on cards can be obtained for a fee of 10.28 EUR.

What do I do if the imprint on the semester ticket is not legible?

Please try to update the card again. If the imprint is still not legible, you will have to apply for a new card.
In this case, please contact the person at the admissions ofice (IPA) who is responsible for you.

What do I do if my card is damaged?

In this case, please request a new card because aq bent or broken card could potentially damage the terminals.

In this case, we may have to pass on the repair costs to you.

What happenes if I lose my card?

You haveto  apply for a new card at the admissions office (IPA). After having payed the fee for the new card you will be given a new QR-code in the Campusmanagementportal my.udk . With this you can create your new card.

Verlust CampusCard

Im Falle des Verlustes der CampusCard gehen Sie bitte wie folgt vor: 

  1. Ausfüllen der eidesstattlichen Erklärung zum Verlust des Studierendenausweis 
  2. Zahlung der Verwaltungsgebühr zur Neuausstellung in Höhe von 10,23 EUR nach Verwaltungsgebührenordnung (VGebO).
  3. Senden Sie die eidesstattliche Erklärung und einen Kontoauszug mit Wertstellungsdatum / Valuta / value date (Screenshot ist in Ordnung) per E-Mail an den*die für Sie zuständige*n Sachbearbeiter*in im Immatrikulations- und Prüfungsamt (IPA) oder den StudyGuide.

Es wird ein neuer QR-Code erstellt, der im Campusmanagement-Portal my.udk abgerufen werden kann. Sie erhalten eine kurze Bestätigung per E-Mail nach der Bearbeitung.

Can I use any terminal in the network to create or update a card?

No, for data protection reasons, only terminals from your own university can be used with the QR code and the card.

Where are the terminals?

The terminals for issuing and updating the card are located at the following locations:

Einsteinufer 43, 10587 Berlin - 4th floor at StudyGuide (can only be used during StudyGuide opening hours)

Do I need to have a passport photo on my card?

No, the photo is optional on the cards. However, you are then requiredd to carry a photo ID or passport with you for the card to be valid.

Are the terminals usable for students with disabilities?

All terminals are designed according to ISO 18040 and therefore usable by students with disabilities.The terminals are wheelchair-accessible and have a voice output in German and English.

Is my personal data stored electronically on the card?

The card contains no personal data on the chip. The chip contains only an anonymous but unique identifier of the card. Use of the mensacard function is also anonymous.

What data is stored in the system?

The CampusCard system is the student card system of UdK Berlin and therefore belongs to the sovereign tasks of the university according to the opening clause DSGVO Art. 6 para. 1.

In addition to the personal data required from the campus management system for the production of the card, technical data of the card and logs on the creation and updating of the card are stored in the system. Apart from the student number, the personal data is deleted after the card has been printed. The photos taken by the machines are not stored in the machines or in the system.

The technical data of the card and corresponding logs of the card are deleted 1 year after the card is blocked.

Are the cards safe?

The CampusCard are Mifare DESfire EV1 cards with AES encryption. Unauthorised persons cannot read them because of the AES encryption.
The cards do not contain any personal data.

How does the QR code work?

The QR-code is anonymous and contains a random, unique number sequence. No personal data is encoded in the QR-code. The QR-code is only usable once, and becomes invalid after the card has be issued. The code has to be printed or displayed on a smartphone/tablet so that the terminal can read it.

How does the mensa card app on the card work?

The CampusCard includes a full mensa card of the Studierendenwerk Berlin. This function can be used for any transaction which is supported by the mensa card. The anonymity of the personal information is protected by organisational and technological steps: the university has no access to the content of the app, while the Studierendenwerk Berlin has only the mensacard number and no personal data of the student.

Do I have to use the mensacard app on the CampusCard?

No, it is still possible to use a separate mensacard of the Studierendenwerk Berlin

How do I get my credit on the Mensa card paid out again?

If you want to have your credit balance paid out, you have to go to a cashier's office of the Berliner Studierendenwerk. You can find these in all refectories. There the credit on your card can be paid out.
