How does the CampusCard work?

Advantages

Compared to the old paper student IDs the new CampusCards are:

  • More durable
  • More counterfeit proof
  • Cheaper

Functions

  • Student ticket for bus and train with TRW technology (ThermoReWrite)
  • ID function with an optional passport photo
  • Integrated “Mensa-card” for anonymous payment
  • Use of the university library with NFC (not yet finished)

The CampusCard is not an official document, therefore it cannot be used in examinations as a substitute for an identity card or passport.

Security

The cards contain no personal information of the students electronically. The terminals get all the personal data online without storing personal information, and the photos made when issuing the card are discarded. The communication between the server and the terminals is encrypted.

How does it work?

Students are issued a one-time QR-code, which can be used to print a personalised student ID at one of the three terminals. This process takes about 1 minute (Campusmanagementportal my.udk: my studies - requested reports / reports).
After using the QR-code it is possible to print a card with or without a passport photo. Photos are taken by the terminal. Cards without a passport photo are not valid without another official document which contains a photo.
After receiving the card, it has to be validated at one of the three validation terminals. These print the validity and the student ticket on the card. This has to be done once every semester.
The semester ticket can be printed 8-10 working days after the semester fee has been paid. In the campusmanagementportal my.udk, you can check whether you have already been confirmed so that the update can be made.

How do I get my card?

The cards can be printed at one of three terminals:

Einsteinufer 43, 10587 Berlin - Ground floor by the snack machines
Einsteinufer 43, 10587 Berlin - 4th floor at StudyGuide (can only be used during StudyGuide opening hours)
Hardenbergstraße 33, 10623 Berlin - Ground floor, around the corner to the right, by the snack machines

A valid QR-code is needed to use the terminals. This can be obtained from your account in campusmanagement portal my.udk.

The QR-code can be scanned from a smartphone or tablet display. If you do not want to use a device, you can print the pdf.

After the card has been issued, it needs to be validated. This can be done at one of three validation terminals:

Einsteinufer 43, 10587 Berlin - Ground floor by the snack machines.
Einsteinufer 43, 10587 Berlin - 4th floor at StudyGuide (can only be used during StudyGuide opening hours)
Hardenbergstraße 33, 10623 Berlin - Ground floor, around the corner to the right, by the snack machines

The validation terminals are available during the opening times of the buildings.

How do I get the semester ticket? / How can I extend the ticket?

You will receive your semester ticket approx. 8-10 days after paying the semester fee at the update machine. You do not need a new QR code or a new card. Your current card will be reprinted at the machine.
In the campusmanagementportal my.udk, you can check whether you have already been re-registered so that the update can be made.
