Before Starting to Study
Except of some further education Master programmes there are no tuition fees charged at UdK Berlin.
Students can apply to numerous German foundations for a grant. The broschure "Information about Grants" is understood as a guideline and first orientation before the next step of contacting an organisation directly. The allocation of most grants takes place according to BAföG guidelines.
The UdK Berlin has no available budget funds with which to support students through regular grants. There are some UdK foundations – however, UdK students can only receive small amounts of funding from them in special circumstances. In our information about grants you will find an overview of these foundations, and an application form can be found on the last page of information. Unfortunately, we are unable to make recommendations or offer concrete assistance with the submission of applications.
Information about financing your studies can also be found at the Social Guidance Office of the studierendenWERK BERLIN
Regarding special financing opportunities for foreign students, please enquire at our office for International Student Services.
Another possible way of financing your studies is a student loan. Information about the various loans on offer can be found in the following PDF.
It is not always easy to find accommodation in Berlin. This information is intended to help you find your way on Berlin's housing market. Our housing information lists the usual contacts for the open housing market, student residences and youth hostels, as well as hostels for shorter visits to Berlin. Of course this list makes no claim to completeness, but it will provide a good basis for your search.
Information on student residences and other useful tips on the subject can also be found on the pages of the studierendenWERK BERLIN.
Best of luck in your search for suitable accommodation
Every year, the Course Guidance Office gathers together currrent information for new students in the brochure "Für den Anfang". You will find it here.
Introductory events, sometimes even introductory days for individual study courses are offered in the colleges at the beginning of each semester. Here, lecturers and students of advanced semesters will tell you all you need to know to start studying successfully, and you will also have an opportunity to get to know each other. As a rule, dates are publicized in the course catalogue, on the internet and/or on notice boards in the building of your study programme.
In addition, at the beginning of every winter semester there is “Welcome to the First Semester” – a major, official event with a stage programme and information booths about starting to study at the UdK. The event is opened by the President of the UdK Berlin, who also welcomes new students on these occasions.
