You can apply for the summer semester 2020 between October 15 and December 15, 2019. This is only possible online.

 

Please note:

When you apply online, you are asked to send your documents by mail and your transcripts to UNI Assist. This is NOT valid for applicants for piano studies. Only the regulations described in this text are valid for you. Please read carefully.

Korean applicants, Attention!
Please, do not give us an address with the ending "@hanmail.net". Quite often hanmail returns our messages with the remark that it cannot be delivered. This means that we can not communicate with you and also not send you your invitation.

Application Procedure for Bachelor and Master:

You have to apply online between October 15th and December 15th, 2019. Please be aware that the application procedure for piano is partly different from the procedure for other instruments.

After applying online, you will receive your application number as well as the application form (in PDF format). Along with the application form, you must bring all the required documents to the entrance exam (see list below).
Please do NOT send your documents by mail.
The invitation to the entrance exams on January 31st/February 1st, 2020 will be sent by email by the Piano Department.

Required Documents:
 
- a completed and printed application form
- a copy of your passport
- a payment confirmation of the 30€ application fee
- Curriculum Vitae (in tabular form)
- for BA applicants: a copy of your most recent academic transcript, if available
- for MA applicants: a copy of your academic certificate of the Bachelor Degree

If you did not graduate from a German-speaking high school:
- a certification of German Language Level A2 or higher (If you do not have a language certificate, please refer to "Foreign applicants - Language proficiency")
Please print out your documents and bring them to the audition. We do not accept documents in digital form.

Starting January 28th (Master applicants) or 29th (Bachelor applicants) 2020, you can practice at the UdK. In order to get a room key, you have to show your Entrance Exam Invitation and a piece of identification (Passport, ID Card or Student ID)
The usual rules regarding practice rooms apply.

Konzertexamen Klavier


Entrance Exam: February 15th, 2020

Starting February 12th, 2020, you can practice at the UdK. in order to get a room key, you have to show your Entrance Exam Invitation and a form of identification (Passport, ID Card or Student ID)
The usual rules regarding practice rooms apply.

At the registration on the day of the entrance exam for the Konzertexamen (KE, February 15th, 2020), you must bring all the required documents with you so that you can be registered to the Immatrikulations- und Prüfungsamt (IPA) if you have been selected after the deliberation, which will take place immediately after the entrance exam.
Please print out your documents and bring them to the audition. We do not accept documents in digital form.

On the Day of the Entrance Exam

Bachelor and Master:

On the day of your entrance exam, please come to the Konzertsaal der Universität der Künste, Hardenbergstrasse (Entrance at Fasanenstrasse 1B, 10623 Berlin) at 9 am to register. There you will be given your audition time.

For the registration for the first round, you must bring:

       - the fully completed, printed, and signed application form
       - a bank confirmation of your payment of the 30€ application fee
       - the printed Curriculum Vitae (in tabular form)

You will be asked to bring the remaining required documents to the second round if you have passed the first round.

Important: Without the application form and the payment confirmation, you will not be allowed to participate in the entrance exam!

At the end of each audition day in the first round, there will be an announcement regarding candidates who have successfully entered the second round and their audition times.


Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your audition.

After the second round, the audition panel will decide who has passed the entrance exam.

 

Additional Processes:

On February 3rd, 2020, the candidates who are recommended to the Dean for the Bachelor and Master programs will be asked to meet with a member of the audition commission in order to collect all required documents as a part of your application.

All the required documents must be presented at this meeting.

Without all the necessary documents, your application cannot be processed. All of this will be concluded in the morning of February 3rd, 2020.


The files collected at this meeting will be passed on to the Immatrikulations- und Prüfungsamt (IPA).

The selected candidates will receive a formal notification from the Immatrikulations- und Prüfungsamt (IPA) on their acceptance and additional information concerning the beginning of studies in Berlin. 

 

 

Konzertexamen

On the day of your entrance exam, plaese come to the Konzertsaal der Universität der Künste, Hardenbergstrasse (Entrance at Fasanenstrasse 1B, 10623 Berlin) at 9.30 am to register. There you will be given your audition time.

For the registration you must bring all your documents.
Important: Without the application form and the payment confirmation, you will not be allowed to participate in the entrance exam!

The panel will decide immediately after the auditions who passed, and in those cases the files will be completed for the Immatrikulations- und Prüfungsamt. At this point you have to present all the required documents.
 

Music Theory

Successful Bachelor candidates who cannot present a valid music theory certificate, will have to participate in a theory test on February 3rd, 2020 at 8:30 in Room 322 of the building Fasanenstrasse 1B, 10623 Berlin. Only candidates who successfully passed the test will be accepted.
 

For Foreign Applicants

UNI ASSIST:

After you have been invited to study at the UdK, you will be asked to submit your most recent academic transcripts to UNI ASSIST for verification (Vorprüfungsdokumentation). This is relevant only for applicants for the master program who have not yet studied in Germany.

Entry Visa:

You will receive the invitation to the entrance exam shortly after you have applied online. This invitation can be used to assist you with your entry visa application at a German Consulate or Embassy. Please be aware of the long processing times of these visa applications and make sure you apply well in advance. In case the Consulate or Embassy needs the invitation in a more specific form, let us know.


Language Proficiency (Bachelor and Master only):

If you cannot present a certificate for Level B2 in German Proficiency at the time of the audition, you must attain at least Level A2 in German Proficiency before you are allowed to start studying at the university. There are courses at the Goethe-Institut, Hartnack-Schule, and others in which you can enroll.

Only after you have submitted the certification Level A2, you will get the official notification that you are accepted and are allowed to start studying at UdK in the following semester for a period of two semesters.

You are expected to have attained Level B2 in German Proficiency by the end of your second semester at the university. This is a mandatory requirement for continuing your studies beyond the second semester.

The language certificates are to be presented at the individual interviews following the entrance exams. We will address your individual concerns and assist you in finding solutions regarding the language requirement.

There are no language requirements, if you apply for Konzertexamen.

F.A.Q.

How is the academic year organized in Berlin?

In Germany, the academic year is divided into two semesters: the winter semester at UdK usually begins in the second half of October and ends around the middle of February. The summer semester begins in the second half of April and ends mid-July.

When do the entrance examinations take place?

The exams are usually at the the end of January/beginning of February for the summer semester and end of June/early July for the winter semester.

When is the application deadline?

You can apply between October 15th andDecember 15th for the summer semester, and between March 15th and May 15th for the winter semester. These dates may vary slightly. Therefore, please check for updates under www.udk-berlin.de


How long is the course of study?

Bachelor: 8 semesters
Master: 4 semesters
Konzertexamen: 4 semesters
