MACHINE LISTENING IN THEORY AND PRACTICE - Analytical tools for spatial parameters of sound installation art documentation

This project explores the implications of Machine Listeningfor sound installation artin theory and practice. It includes a discussion of theories of listening, methodologies of analysis of acoustic signals, and approaches to the understanding of sound installation art through an analysis of the spatial characteristics of their sonic documentations. A sound art installation was created as a form to exemplify some of the problems and solutions that Machine Listening presents as a theoretical concept and as analytical tool for sound installationart. The aim is to broaden the possibilities ofthe discourse of sound art as a genre, by putting into question some of its core characteristics, namely, spatiality, site-specificity and ephemerality.
