We hope that you have all been enjoying the springtime in Berlin and further afield. Here is our latest newsletter with information about upcoming events at the Sound Studies and Sonic Arts department of UdK On the 21st of May it is our pleasure to welcome Dr. Zeynep Bulut for our next sic! lecture. For this session the artist, theorist and member of our SoundS guest faculty will discuss the emergence, embodiment, and mediation of voice as skin, based on her new book, Building a Voice: Sound, Surface, Skin (Goldsmiths Press, March 2025). The lecture will take place on Wednesday, May 21st at 7.30pm on our premises at Lietzenburger Straße 45, 10789 Berlin, Room 315 in cooperation with UNI.K (Prof. Kirsten Reese). And as we approach the summer, it is already time to let you know that this year's master's exhibition is just around the corner. From the 5th-8th of June our current masters phase students will be exhibiting their final degree projects at our usual home, the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin - Mark your calendars! More details about this will follow shortly.

Sic! - sic! Dr. Zeynep Bulut: Building a Voice: Sound, Surface, Skin

Drawing on examples in experimental music practices and media art, Dr. Zeynep Bulut will explore individual and collective processes of voice-making, and ask how we can imagine the voices we make in the form of a skin and what the conception of voice as skin affords in times of crisis and uncertainties.
Dr. Zeynep Bulut is a voice and sound theorist. She is a Lecturer in Music at SARC, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Sound and Music, at Queen's University Belfast. Her work theorises the emergence, embodiment and mediation of voice as skin.
Sic! Sound in Context is a lecture series with international guests on sound art, electronic composition and sound-related media art with talks, presentations and lecture-performances.
