In the winter-term 2020/21, the Departments of Design and Urban Renewal and PRADA have jointly offered an interdisciplinary film and architecture project on the subject of "Living in Berlin" which is going to be pursued and deepened in the summer-term.

Regarding the possibility to increase the quality of space for living and in view of the continuously increasing demand for housing, we question existing prefabricated housing estates spatially and atmospherically and develop suggestions for the transformation, densification, intensification and improvement of the qualities found. For this purpose, we are working on short films based on existing apartments in the district of Berlin-Hellersdorf. Starting from the production of films relating stories inside and around these Plattenbau apartments, we experiment and explore possible interactions between film / construction and architecture / construction.

The seminar is conceived as a one year project. While in the first semester we focused on knowing what Pattenbau is and worked from the interior space and its immediate surroundings, the second semester will be oriented towards the possibility (or not) of evolution and transformation of the system and the creation of relations and connections.
