Study Abroad: Intercultural Training for Outgoings

Cultural preparation for your student exchange

Saturday, 15 June 2024, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Hardenbergstr. 33, Room 110

With Dr Jessica Haß, Sandra Bayer, Regine Brosius

Max. 16 participants, please register by 23 May 2024 to regine.brosius_ @intra.udk-berlin.de

Studying at a partner university abroad is exciting and for many students one of the best episodes of their educational journey. In addition to interesting study content, the main motivation is often to get to know new people and cultures or to learn a foreign language. However, there are also some worries and concerns beforehand: Will I find my way in the new cultural context? Will I like the degree programme, even if it is perhaps completely different to what I am used to? Will my foreign language skills be good enough?

In a relaxed workshop atmosphere, we will deal with your concerns before your stay abroad. In a playful and interactive exchange, we deal with the cultural challenges that you might face when studying abroad, for example through (role) games, case analyses or discussions in the group.

Selected training content:

  • Reflecting on self-perception and perception of others, expectations and fears
  • Cultural differences and similarities at various levels (e.g. teaching/learning cultures, university cultures)
  • Significance of power in an intercultural context
