SoundS News - June 2020
Dear friends of SoundS,
You haven’t heard from us for a while. As you might have guessed, SoundS, too, has been profoundly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. After a period of uncertainty about safety measures and the implications of online education – that beeing quality concerns of teaching in the arts, especially when dealing with sound, but also concerning legal issues and data protection – we are now teaching half of the usual amount of our classes online. Workshops that withstand the online format will be taught to small groups of students in-person beginning in late July again.
Sadly, we had to refrain from public concerts and lectures, and everybody misses the excitement of live performances and immediate personal exchange. I do hope to see you again for new editions of die Reihe this fall, and also at our student gallery Sound.About in November!
These are mere disappointments though compared to the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic that hit our students hard, especially financially. I don’t need to go into detail about the currently especially dire situations of freelancers in the performative arts or students making ends meet by waiting tables. Also, since most of our students are international, many means of financial support are not available to them.
I therefore would like to kindly ask everyone capable of chipping in to support the official ZIW Corona Relief Fund for students in acute need. Please do forward this fundraiser to friends and supporters of the community.
I am personally involved in this appeal for donations and will make sure that your contribution will be channeled to students in greatest need. Thank you very much for your support.
With all the best from my home office, yours
Volker Straebel
