Annual topic 2025/26: Futurity / Zukünftigkeit

Futurity / Zukünftigkeit

Following the annual themes of “Amnesia”, which dealt with forgetting and remembering the past today, and “Tipping points”, which examined decisive breaks and turning points in the present, the Studium Generale is now focusing on futurity as potential: the future not as a fixed fate, but as a possibility - an experiment, a design, a hypothesis.

Futures do not arise by themselves. They are imagined, hoped for, expected, feared or negotiated and shaped - in art, science and society. Which narratives, images and technologies shape our ideas of what is to come? Which futures will prevail and which will remain mere sketches? Can we think about tomorrow without merely perpetuating the present? Which radical, unconventional or speculative futures can we think about and tell together? And what role can art and creativity play in these processes?

With the annual theme “Zukünftigkeit / Futurity” 2025-2026, the Studium Generale invites you to understand the future as an open design - as a field that needs shaping but is never complete.
