Space and Resonance - Questions to a place – Special Event
What traces does history leave behind in a place? How do we locate ourselves in space, what coordinates describe our position and what vibrations do we trigger? The two artists and UdK Berlin alumnae Jenny Brockmann and Nina Rhode and Matthias Noell, Professor for History and Theory of Architecture at the UdK Berlin, are each developing their own artistic and discursive perspectives on architecture, space and the localisation of the Kunsthaus Dahlem. In doing so, they will search for historical coordinates in digital environments, explore the sonic qualities of the studio space and translate an architecture of the colossal into miniature format.
In 2025, the Berlin University of the Arts will celebrate its 50th anniversary. In 1975, the former Hochschule der Künste was created through the merger of the University of Fine Arts and the University of Music and Performing Arts in West Berlin. Kunsthaus Dahlem will also be celebrating its 10th anniversary in June 2025. The shared history of both institutions goes back further and is linked by the names Arno Breker and Bernhard Heiliger. Both artists taught at predecessor institutions of the UdK Berlin and both used the studio building that is now Kunsthaus Dahlem. These historical intersections serve as a starting point for both institutions to critically reflect on their own histories and on the role of art and its mediation.
