SaitenSprung – an instrumental crescendo – crescendo

Gábor Tarkövi

Opposites attract - art needs contrast. Without sound, we would perceive silence differently. In the interplay of melody and harmony, solo and ensemble and in the variety of rhythm, timbre and dynamics, the musical development and sometimes its reversal into the opposite is made clear and at the same time our perception is sharpened.

With the brass instruments trumpet, trombone and horn and the string instrument guitar, these contrasts are united in one concert and make the versatility of musical forms of expression tangible. We also encounter contrasts in the suite of the musical fairy tale The Ugly Duckling for brass ensemble by Nina Šenk: Here, the audience is whisked away into an entertaining sound story in which the brass players repeatedly retreat into a delicate piano to give space to the musical motifs of swan, duck and duckling.

Can you feel the arc that spans between the opposites for yourself? Let us surprise you.

Eric Ewazen: Concert Fanfare | Erik Morales: Infinite Ascent | Enrique Crespo: Drei Milongas | Michail Glinka: Ruslan and Ludmilla Overtüre | Nina Šenk: Suite to „The ugly duckling“, Musical fairytale for brass ensemble | Works by Agustín Barrios Mangoré, Niccolò Paganini, Joaquín Rodrigo and others

The Berlin Senate has imposed enormous savings targets on public universities. You know that: An excellent musical education consists not only of the many hours of solitary practising and lessons by professors, but also, to a large extent, of performing in front of an audience. This inherent part of the training is also the opportunity for you to attend almost always free concerts at a high level. We don't want to have to cut back on this. By attending our events, you can also show those responsible in politics that music and art are meaningful for every society. And if you can: support us with small or large donations. The donations are used for teaching, tuning, transport, advertising material, for our music festival crescendo - wherever no funds can be spent at the moment. This directly benefits our students and also you as the audience, as this is the only way we can maintain events of this calibre and variety.

You can donate here.

Thank you very much!
