Andi Rueckel

short vita

Andi Rueckel is known as concept-driven and critical-minded gestalter from Berlin, Germany, exploring the fields of aesthetics, typography, new media, and computation.

In June 2019, Andi Rueckel successfully graduated in Prof. Joachim Sauter’s New Media Class at Berlin University of the Arts, examining the intersection of art, artist, and artificial intelligence via instructional.ai, which was created in collaboration with Marcel Haupt.

In March 2020, Andi Rueckel joined Robert Schnuell in conceptualizing the architecture for a free and open-source digital infrastructure for Berlin University of the Arts to somewhat mitigate the temporal closing of UdK Berlin’s classrooms and workshops due to the emerging global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. In summer and fall, Marcel Haupt and Florian Weber joined this endeavor, which laid the foundations for medienhaus/, »Notfalldigitalisierung«, and the (con)temporary »Labor für digitale Infrastruktur«.

In January 2025, Andi Rueckel, Marcel Haupt, and Florian Weber started conceptualizing, designing, and developing the next iteration of Berlin University of the Arts’ »Rundgang CMS« (content management system) for use in 2025 and hopefully onwards—this time based on the well established Kirby CMS—which is being hosted on hardware located in Medienhaus.

In July 2025, partially reinforced due to Berlin-wide budget cutbacks, the medienhaus/ team and Berlin University of the Arts are parting ways, unfortunately leaving most established hardware and software infrastructure without maintenance, service, and support, resulting in an inevitable shutdown of operations.
