An Intersectional Perspective on Addressing Antisemitic Discrimination and Violence at the Berlin University of the Arts

Addressing systems of discrimination and violence always necessitates precise historical and societal contextualization. It is therefore essential to consider both the specific dynamics and functions of antisemitic violence, as well as its interrelations and parallels with other forms of discrimination and violence and the ideologies underlying them. In this regard, the work against antisemitism at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) incorporates an intersectional perspective.

Such an intersectional approach to antisemitism acknowledges that antisemitic incidents and practices may also involve elements of ableism, sexism, LGBTQI* hostility, racism, ethnocentrism, or nationalism, all of which must be critically examined from a discrimination-aware standpoint. Moreover, Jewish communities are affected by multidimensional forms of discrimination based on age, origin, gender identity, and social status. Planned initiatives aim to create spaces for engaging with these dynamics and to foster a deeper understanding of the complexity of antisemitism as a structural phenomenon.
