You have no doubt already heard: the Berlin Senate has imposed massive budget cuts on public universities. Like all universities, we now find ourselves in the dire situation of having to operate with drastically reduced funding. This is having a significant impact on a wide range of areas within our university.

As you know, an excellent musical education consists not only of the many hours of solitary practice and lessons with professors, but also, crucially, of performances in front of an audience. Whether in a class recital or a major orchestral concert at the Philharmonie. This integral part of the education is, on the other hand, also an opportunity for you to attend high-quality concerts almost always free of charge. We do not wish to have to cut back on this.

We therefore ask you, our audience: please come and see us as often as you can. In doing so, you will also demonstrate to those in political decision-making roles that music and the arts are essential to any society. And if you are able to do so, please support us with donations, large or small. The donations will be used for teaching, tuning, transport, promotional material, and also for crescendo – the music festival of the Berlin University of the Arts – wherever funds cannot currently be allocated. They will thus directly benefit our students and you as our audience, for only in this way can we maintain events of this standard and diversity.
