Family Caregiving

The claim to the time for nursing care applies to all care degrees. This is a socially insured exemption from work for up to six months. Employees covered under Section 7 (1) of the PflegeZG (Care Leave Act) who care for a close relative at home are entitled to care leave. This constitutes an unpaid, complete or partial exemption from work for up to six months, authorized by the employer. In the case of close relatives who are minors in need of care, there is also a right to leave for care outside the home. Furthermore, employees are entitled to leave (up to three months) to accompany a close relative in the final stages of life, for example in a hospice. The desired distribution of working hours must also be specified. Employers and employees must reach a written agreement on the reduction and distribution of working hours. In doing so, the employer must comply with the employees' wishes, unless urgent operational reasons prevent this.
