Maternity leave in the event of miscarriage

Women experiencing a miscarriage are now entitled to maternity leave protections in far more circumstances than previously. At the end of January, the Bundestag unanimously voted to grant women maternity leave in the event of a miscarriage from the 13th week of pregnancy onwards. Until now, this has generally only been the case from the 24th week of pregnancy onwards. From now on, a staggered regulation will apply. In the event of a miscarriage from the 13th week of pregnancy onwards, affected women are not permitted to work for two weeks, unless they explicitly wish to do so. From the 17th week of pregnancy onwards, maternity leave lasts six weeks, and from the 20th week onwards, it lasts eight weeks. This corresponds to the standard duration of maternity leave after the birth of a living child.
