Application deadline

15 September till 15 October 2026 for the winter semester 2027/28

    • Completion of a Bachelor degree of at least 6 semesters or a comparable degree
    • special artistic talent
    • Standard period of study: 4 semesters, 120 credit points
    • Degree: Master of Music (M.Mus.)

Your application – step by step

All of the steps listed below must be completed within the application period for the respective study programme. We recommend that you submit your application as early as possible within the application period so that you can clarify any questions that may arise with our StudyGuide in good time.

  • Register and verify your identity (if you have not already done so) on the UdK Berlin application portal: https://my.udk-berlin.de

     

  • Fee per application: EUR 30.00 (plus fees for international transfers)

    For international transfers:

  • During the application process, you will be asked to submit formal documents. Please prepare these as individual PDF files (max. 5 MB each).

    Formal documents:

    • Curriculum vitae with a description of your personal, artistic and professional career
    • University degree certificate
    • Transcript of records for the BA degree
    • Preliminary examination document (VPD) from uni-assist, if applicable (see FAQs)
    • Proof of payment of application fees
    • Letter of motivation
  • Log in to the application portal (https://my.udk-berlin.de) and submit an application for admission to your desired study programme within the application period and upload the formal documents.

Portfolio

Upload during the application period a digital documentation of an own or mainly self-responsible artistic project (work sample; 10-15 min.) on the upload platform bemus. Accompanying texts are to be submitted in English.

The  files must be named according to the following pattern:
Surname_First_Name_Applicant_Number_Study_Content.

Entrance procedure

What happens after the application?

The admission procedure consists of the pre-selection and the entrance examination. The applicants selected on the basis of the uploaded work will receive an invitation to the entrance examination by e-mail, which will take place on site at the JIB.

The entrance exam consists of the following parts:

  • Audition (approx. 30 min.) with own/provided ensemble, mostly own compositions
  • A spontaneous composition according to specification
  • approx. 10 min. presentation with own or provided ensemble
  • Play of a given theme (approx. 20 minutes) with musicians chosen by the admission committee
  • Colloquium (approx. 10 minutes) on the submitted application and the digitally documented project. A project should be introduced and artistically and professionally explained. Furthermore the course and result of the project should be estimated.
