This two-part practical seminar combines the fundamentals and advanced aspects of camera work with an intensive introduction to digital colour correction and colour grading in film and video.

Part 1 – Camera and Lights, Lighting and Camera

The first block will focus on camera work, with a special emphasis on lighting. In addition to deepening our understanding of the technical basics of cinematography, we will explore lighting techniques. We will experiment with various lighting approaches, from “available light” to scenic lighting design.

Part 2 – Colour Grading

Anne Braun

The second module provides an introduction to the field of digital color correction and color grading in film and video. Based on theoretical foundations and through practical exercises, key aspects and approaches of digital post-production and image processing are explored and applied. Participants gain insight into the workflow and learn the basic functionalities of the grading software DaVinci Resolve.

Summary of contents of part 2:

  • Artistic and technical aspects of digital color correction/grading
  • Image signals, processing, workflow
  • Practical work with Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve
  • (Green screen keying – if required)

Participants are asked to bring their own video material to the seminar.
During the seminar, as well as for self-study, learning materials from Blackmagic Design will be used.
