Artistic R&D
Artists have a long history of collaborations with technologists and scientists, producing a form of creative research and development. This seminar will explore the history of these collaborations up until today where new experiments in creative research and development are unearthing entirely new practices for creative work.
The seminar will build on the ideas in the Living Sculpture class to develop a broad definition of how artists are going beyond the exhibition hall to produce creative works alongside other practitioners and with new materials or media. Part of this exploration will include learning how to document and write about the artistic works and the skills necessary to produce them in different contexts. The idea being that we will develop ways of writing that responds to these different possibilities outside and within the art context. There will be a strong focus on writing in this seminar.
The seminar will include guest lectures and site / exhibitions visits.
