Catherine Larsen-Maguire captivates audiences with her energy, musicality and technical precision, and regularly guest conducts renowned orchestras around the world. After ten years as principal bassoonist with the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, she devoted herself entirely to conducting in 2012.
She has been music director of the Faroese Symphony Orchestra since January 2026; having previously led the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland for two years. In recent seasons, she has conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, as well as a new production of Don Giovanni at the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin. In addition to the classical repertoire, she is deeply committed to new music and has conducted numerous world premieres, including Alexander Goehr's last work with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
