Conducting

The conducting program at the Berlin University of the Arts is known as the International Conducting Academy Berlin (ICAB). It offers highly talented and ambitious young conductors a unique educational environment that combines intensive practical experience, individual artistic development, and close ties to the professional music world.

At the heart of the training concept is the belief that conductors develop primarily through regular practical work with orchestras and ensembles, through direct artistic inspiration, and through continuous reflection. Small classes, close mentoring, and a high proportion of active conducting practice provide students with training that is consistently geared toward the demands of the profession. The Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Conducting, as well as the Advanced Professional Training for Conductors, comprehensively prepare students for the artistic, professional, and communicative challenges of the conducting profession. Regular projects with professional orchestras and ensembles from Berlin, throughout Germany, and other European countries provide valuable experience under professional conditions even while students are still in school.
