George Lewis – Decolonized Composing

This course reflects George Lewis' concern with exploring the sound of decolonization. We will be creating a set of new, interactive works for various combinations of instrumentalists, vocalists, and electronicists, as well as a work for the entire cohort. Academic training, fluency with music notation, and/or experience with improvisation, while welcome, are not required. Those who need electronics or sound reinforcement are requested to keep setups simple and portable. Regular daily discussions, short readings and lectures will also be on offer. The course will culminate in a final performance of the works we have created together. Participants may contact George Lewis with ideas and concepts before the course formally begins.
