Sound Art Meets Psychoacoustics Dec 18, 00:05–01:00 on Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Sound Art Program
Sound art works exploring the phenomenon of psychoacoustics: What happens in the mind before we hear?
It begins with sound. Yet the act of hearing starts only later—within our ears, our minds, and our experiences. This program presents sound art works that explore the phenomenon of psychoacoustics.
Our hearing is significantly shaped by biological, social, and cultural processes. There is a gap between an acoustic stimulus and its perception; hearing never occurs in a vacuum. It is influenced by space, architecture, memory, and social context. Students from the Sound Studies and Sonic Arts Master’s program, under the guidance of Prof. Daisuke Ishida, have investigated this tension. Where does perception end? Where does illusion begin? The result is a collection of sound works exploring acoustic illusions, earworms, and dreams.
