21 October 2026 | SoundS student Miranda Ayala to perform at the Venice Biennale

source: Miranda Ayala

Current SoundS Student Miranda Ayala will be performing at this year's Venice Biennale. Under her alias HIELOCO, Ayala will present an audio visual performance that reflects on the experiences of childhood.

HIELOCO constructs this musical selection as the uneven path of an imaginary childhood. Rather than representing childhood as a time of innocence, growth, and carefreeness, the project highlights its most repressed aspects: the weight of social expectations and the vulnerability of a condition entirely entrusted to others, who are also burdened by their own lives. Childhood thus becomes a museum of ordered fragments, expressed in sound and fueled by forms of pain and anguish that are more felt than understood.

The project also draws inspiration from Soviet-era animation, whose soundtracks accompanied stories centered on loneliness, death, and social difficulties, in the belief that even children were capable of navigating emotional complexity.
On stage, HIELOCO takes on the role of a clown, a figure suspended between childhood and adulthood, whose melancholy reflects that of the child: both depend on someone else to sustain the fiction. Rather than evoking a nostalgic image of childhood, the performance highlights how his fears and contradictions continue to resurface in adult life.
