crescendo26: GegenTöne - Counter-Tones
Finale der GegenTöne: Nicht in den WIND geSCHLAGen (Finale of GegenTöne: Not blown away by the wind) – crescendo
crescendo26 ends brilliantly, with an impressive variety of sound and aesthetics:
Nebojsa Zivkovic: Trio per Uno
George Crumb: An Idyll for the Misbegotten
Maki Ishii: Thirteen Drums op. 66
Leonard Bernstein: Ḥalil, Nocturne
as well as world premieres by Yike Du, Friederike Horz and Lukas Mertin
Ensembles ilinx – Studio for New Music at the Berlin University of the Arts / Soloists from Prof. Christina Fassbender's flute class and Prof. Simone Rubino/Prof. Jan Biesterfeld's percussion class / Leah Muir, conductor
The varied programme focuses on the flute and percussion in a wide variety of combinations. Groundbreaking compositions for these instruments from the last 60 years amaze us and trace the development of numerous playing techniques. At the same time, we sense how much the composers incorporate external events into their works and explore them sonically: be it Nebosja Zivkovic's trio, in which ‘three bodies, one soul’ produce music on a single drumhead, be it the progressive destruction of the environment (George Crumb) or the confrontation with war and violence in Bernstein's sometimes gentle, then suddenly dramatically changing Ḥalil (which, incidentally, is the name for a Jewish flute). Bernstein himself describes his work as an expression of a struggle ‘between tonal and atonal forces,’ in which an ‘overwhelming will to live and the comforting powers of art, love and hope for peace’ wrestle with ‘wars and threats of war.’ For composing always means taking a stand – as an appeal, in agreement or as a dissenting voice.
The three world premieres by the students, also for solo flute and ensemble with percussion, show us how today's composers find their expression and point to the future at the end of the festival. Let's see what crescendo27 has to offer!
Support us!
The Berlin Senate has imposed enormous savings targets on public universities. You know that: An excellent musical education consists not only of the many hours of solitary practising and lessons by professors, but also, to a large extent, of performing in front of an audience. This inherent part of the training is also the opportunity for you to attend almost always free concerts at a high level. We don't want to have to cut back on this. By attending our events, you can also show those responsible in politics that music and art are meaningful for every society. And if you can: support us with small or large donations. The donations are used for teaching, tuning, transport, advertising material, for our music festival crescendo - wherever no funds can be spent at the moment. This directly benefits our students and also you as the audience, as this is the only way we can maintain events of this calibre and variety.
Thank you very much!
