* 8 April 1941 / † 29 December 2022

Vivienne Westwood was an extraordinary woman who set many movements in motion that are changing the fashion industry today and stimulate
rethinking."Buy less, choose well, make it last. It's all about quality, not quantity."

Vivienne Westwood was an exceptional p rofessor who shaped the study of fashion design at the Berlin University of the Arts for many years. We  are grateful that she taught and inspired at UdK from 1993 to 2004. Her teaching methods, characterized in particular by her historical knowledge of fashion design and her cut-based design approach, were unique and have influenced generations of students.

In this respect we want to share the memories of UdK graduate Justine Masché, who worked with Vivienne:

I couldn’t be more grateful for everything she taught the world and also me personally. It was always wonderful to see her lifelong passion for activism, addressing the issues of our world and making it a better place.

Her teachings will always have an impact on my thinking and my way of designing, as I’m sure it will for so many other creatives.

“Aristotle defines happiness as living up to one’s potential. In doing so we become who we are — just like an acorn becomes an oak.”

Vivienne was the mightiest oak that ever stood. Like the roots system of the biggest forest, her vision and legacy will forever connect us to her.

We are sending strength and love to her family and close friends.
