Prof. Barbara Kotte

short vita

Barbara Kotte studied Visual Communication at FH Düsseldorf, now Hochschule Düsseldorf, Peter Behrens School of Arts, as well as German and Media Studies at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. She did not complete the latter because the working world was too tempting. She worked in creation for various advertising agencies in Düsseldorf and then from the end of the 1990s in Berlin: Grey, Rempen & Partner, Scholz & Friends, to name but a few. In 2002, together with two partners, she founded Kollektiv Scrollan, in which she is still active today. In parallel, she taught at tFH Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts and HfG Offenbach, followed by 17 years as Professor of Advertising Design at the Faculty of Design at the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim. Since 2022, she is a professor in the Visual Communication degree programme and heads the Klasse Kampagnen.

Barbara Kotte's work is always about ideas. Ideas for campaigns and communication. Ideas that move something, that deal with people and society. It doesn't matter which digital and analogue media are used: Posters and social media, photography and films, radio and podcasts, events and ambient, digital products and services.

Barbara Kotte is a member of Art Directors Club Germany and ADC Europe. She was Talent Chairwoman at ADC and is a regular jury member at design competitions. Her work has received numerous awards, including from the Type Directors Club New York, IF, Red Dot and Art Directors Club. She has been included in exhibitions at the MAAS Museum, Syndey, Australia, the Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens, Greece and the MAD Museum of Art and Design, New York, USA.
