Mariam Rafehi

Mariam Rafehi joined the project "Innovation in Arts Education" (InKüLe) at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2022 within the context of experimental educational technology and media.

Prior to that, she worked with international partners on a research project that focused on the potential applications of Virtual Reality (VR) in education. In a third-party funded project by the HBKU Innovation Center, Mariam and two colleagues tested and applied VR for remote learning and student engagement. Mariam is a practice-based researcher in interdisciplinary design and emergent technologies. Based on her research with immersive technologies, she has been a lecturer at Northwestern University and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Qatar. She was awarded her MFA in Design Studies from VCU in 2019. Since then, her praxis has incorporated a combination of skills in digital fabrication, physical computing, as well as VR and Augmented Reality (AR) development.
