“!“MULTICHANNEL – sound sculpture by Anke Eckardt (2010) at the European Media Art Festival

This year, Osnabrück’s European Media Art Festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The EMAF in Osnabrück is one of the most important forums of international Media Art. It is an open laboratory for creative and artistic experiments that help shape media and the aesthetics of their content. As a lively meeting place for artists, curators, lenders, gallery owners and a specialist audience, it has been instrumental in forming the themes and aesthetics of Media Art.

A vertical line of loudspeakers plays a downward sliding tone which is followed by a heavy sub bass punch on the ground. The punch seems to trigger an “eruption” in a tank, which is filled with black liquid. The liquid erupts in the form of a round wave, which disintegrates and splashes in all directions. Over the duration of the exhibition a black speckled, dripped image thus forms on the initially clean, white floor.
