Installation ‘Der andere Blick’

Installation ‘Der andere Blick’

Our alumna Echo Ho and Gogo J present sound installations and objects under the title ‘Der andere Blick’ at the Kirchgarten St. Mauritius in Cologne.

‘Der andere Blick’ unites two artists looking for relation(ships) in and from different cultures between China and West Europe. Sound installations and sound performance at the closing event provide a new perspective of life and location(s) in the cultural diversity provided by this West European-Chinese encounter. Do we hear and experience the garden in Cologne differently? The fast-paced present meets old traditions, connections, momentous locations, fascination dashes against alienation, ignorance, alleged familiarity mixes with the feeling of being a stranger. What is ‘heritage’? The artists are bound together by this experience, and their seeking, approach and reflection about this experience, defining years of study in Europe, their home town Peking and the transdisciplinary media art. Sheng Jie returned to China, first Shanghai, now Beijing. Echo Ho took out German citizenship and lives in Cologne. The artists are friends; they occasionally worked together in China and Europe. They question issues many travellers are concerned with such as how do we experience what in our preshaped everyday perception?
