Die DDR Hat Es Nie Gegeben I Appell (The GDR Never Existed I Salute)
Video Loop, 4 Min, with English subtitles

THE GDR NEVER EXISTED / SALUTE. On German Unity Day, a young woman dressed in a dirndl is endlessly reciting the first part of the German Democratic Republic's young pioneers’ salute: “Get ready for peace and socialism!”.

She stands at Schloßplatz (Palace’s Square, formerly: Marx-Engel Square) in Berlin. Behind her, the reconstruction of the Neo-Prussian Berlin Palace (formerly: Palace of the People) is taking place. Will the second part of the salute “I am ready!” be the answer?
