Deconstructing a Socialist Lawnmower

(un)obscuring narratives embedded throughout technology from the German Democratic Republic (GDR)

Can deconstructing socialist era media technology and connecting it to the present day offer alternative readings of our critical entanglement with technology? What kind of patterns and juxtapositions emerge when domestic technology, cultural practices and techniques that surrounded technology from the GDR inhabit the current realms of consumerist culture?

With fellow Darsha Hewitt and her guests Nadja Buttendorf and Sophia Gräfe.

The event will be held in English.

The series of events is co-funded by the Einstein Foundation Berlin and is a cooperation between the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the Graduate School at the Berlin Centre for Advanced Studies in Arts and Sciences (BAS) of UdK Berlin.
