Application process for Incoming Students

Apply for your exchange semester

We are delighted about your interest in the Berlin University of the Arts!

First things first:

You can only apply if your home university and your degree programme have a cooperation agreement with us through one of these programmes:

ERASMUS+

Swiss European Mobility Programme

Bilateral Agreement (International Studies Abroad)

and you are officially nominated for an exchange place.
Please check with your International Office in advance.

The Berlin University of the Arts does NOT have a freemover programme; we only accept applications from our partner universities.

 

  • Architecture, Art in Context, Art and Media, Communication in Social and Economic Contexts (GWK), Costume Design, Creative Writing for the Stage, Dance, Drama Education, Design & Computation, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Product Design, Stage Design, Teachers Training Theater, Visual Communication

     

    1. Nomination through your home university

        Nomation deadline: 31. March for winter semester/ 31. October for summer semester

        Your home university will send the nomination by email to the International Office of the      Berlin University of the Arts.

        Without a nomination, no application is possible! Only nominations from partner            universities with which the Berlin University of the Arts has a cooperation agreement            will be accepted.

        The Berlin University of the Arts does not have a freemover programme!  

    2. You apply online!

         Application periods: 15. March till 15. April for winter semester                                                                   15. October till 15. November for summer semester

         After the nomination, you will receive an email from the UdK.

         The email contains a link to the online form for our MoveOn portal.

    3. Response from UdK Berlin

         Approximately 5 weeks after the application deadline, you will receive an email with an         acceptance or rejection.

         Applicants will be accepted or rejected based on the quality of their portfolio or                     recordings and the number of places available. An official nomination from your home           university does not automatically mean admission to the Berlin University of the Arts.

    4. Documents to be submitted:

    The following documents must be uploaded to the MoveOn online application form:

    All Students:

    • CV
    • Motivational Letter

     additionally: 

    Students of:
    Architecture, Art in Context, Art and Media, Costume Design, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Product Design, Stage Design, Visual Communication

    • Portfolio (only PDF, unzipped, max. 10 MB)

    Communication in Social and Economic Contexts (GWK):

    Study plan
    • Language certificate German B1 (better B2)

    Costume Design:

    • Language certificate German B1 (better B2)

    Creative Writing for the Stage:

    • Play scripts

    Dance:

    • Video link (max. 10 min.)

  • 1. Application deadline:

        15. April for winter- AND summer semester

    2. Response

        June/ July after the entrance examinations for regular students 

     

    Special regulations:

    • Violin & Piano: You must specify which lecturer(s) you would like to study with.

     

    3. Documents you must submit:

    All Students

    • CV

    additionally:

    Instruments, vocals, music:
    •  Audio or Video Link (youtube, vimeo etc.) of 3 pieces, preferably in different styles

    Movement educuation / rhythmics:
    • Audio or Video Link (youtube, vimeo etc.) of a self-developed movement composition (solo) and an instrumental improvisation (solo or ensemble).

     Jazz:
    • Audio or Video Link (youtube, vimeo etc.) of 3 pieces, preferably in different styles and your own composition

    Conducting:
    • Video Link

    Composition:
    • scores

    Sound engineer:
    • Link to sample recordings; good German language skills (at least B2) are required
