How do I apply for an exchange semester at the UdK Berlin?
The UdK Berlin accepts exchange applications in the framework of ERASMUS+, SWISS MOBILITY PROGRAMME or BILATERAL AGREEMENTS. Only students from our partner institutions are eligible to come to our university as exchange students. They need to be nominated formally by their home university. Students will be accepted on the basis of the quality of their Portfolio /Recordings.
Free Mover applications cannot be considered.
Applications to all Courses of Study except Music / Voice / Jazz
Fine Arts, Art in Context, Architecture, Design & Computation, Product Design, Fashion Design, Visual Communication, Art and Media, Stage Design, Costume Design, Communication in Social and Economic Contexts (GWK), Teachers Training Theater, Drama Education, Creative Writing for the Stage:
1. Nomination by your Home University
Before you can apply at Berlin University of the Arts, your home university will formally nominate you. Please note that you cannot access our online application system without prior nomination!
Deadline: 31st March (winter semester) or 31st October (summer semester)
2. Student Application Period:
After your nomination, you will be contacted by the International Office of the UdK Berlin and are required to fill out and submit an online application form. The link will be provided by email and is accessible from 15th October.
15th March – 15th April (winter semester) or 15th October – 15th November (summer semester)
The following documents need to be uploaded:
• Letter of Motivation
Fine Arts, Art in Context, Architecture, Product Design, Fashion Design,Visual Communication, Art and Media, Stage Design, Costume Design:
PDF only, we do not accept files larger than 8 MB!
Communication in Social and Economic Contexts (GWK):
• provisional study plan
• German language certificate B1
Creative Writing for the Stage:
• play scripts
3. Further application documents:
Deadline for supporting documents is 15th April or 15th November!
After submitting the online application you will receive an e-mail with further details about the application process. Some will be asked to e-mail further supporting documents – if necessary.
It is essential that the maximum data volume of the e-mail attachments does not exceed 8 MB unzipped!
Applications submitted after the deadline cannot be considered. We only accept completed applications with all required documents.
Courses of Study Music / Voice / Jazz / Dance
In the courses of study in music, voice and Jazz nominations and applications are made via the joint online application system of the European Music Schools EASY.
The 15th of April is the deadline for both semesters.
Later applications for the summer semester can only be considered if there are vacancies.
The decision on the placement can only be made after the entrance examinations for regular students in June / July.
For violin and piano you have to indicate which teacher you want to study with.
For the Jazz Institute Berlin (JIB) only applications for the Bachelor, not for the Master are possible.
The following documents must be uploaded in EASY:
• Curriculum vitae
• Motivation letter
Instruments, vocals, music and movement educuation / rhythmics:
• Audio or video (mp3, mp4 or youtube, vimeo etc.) of 3 pieces, preferably in different styles
• Audio or video (mp3, mp4 or youtube, vimeo etc.) of 3 pieces, preferably in different styles and an own, new composition
• audition recording (max. 10 min.)
