Health protection includes the prevention and avoidance of work-related illnesses. Measures for this include inspections, workplace analyses and the assessment of hazards at each workplace as well as the early detection of work-related illnesses through occupational medical check-ups.
The university doctor has the task of advising and supporting employers, the staff council and employees in all matters relating to the interaction between work and health. In particular, he advises on:

• Occupational physiological, occupational psychological and ergonomic issues
• Issues relating to working patterns, working hours and break arrangements
• The design of workplaces, work processes and the working environment
• The organisation of ‘first aid’ in the company
• Questions of reintegration
• Inspections of work areas and workplaces
• Investigating the causes of work-related illnesses
• The development of concepts for the prevention of work-related illnesses
