2019 - 16. Paula Salomon-Lindberg-Competition "Das Lied"

The Competition

During October 9 – 12, 2019, the Berlin University of the Arts will present the 16th Paula Salomon-Lindberg Competition “Das Lied”– a competition for voice and piano students enrolled at music universities and similar institutions in Europe and Israel.

Paula Salomon-Lindberg studied voice with Julius Raatz-Brockmann at the Berlin Academy of Music, a predecessor of today’s UdK Berlin. She initiated the Lied competition, which first took place in 1989.

In den Wettbewerbsrunden tragen die Bewerberinnen und Bewerber eine von der Jury bestimmte Auswahl aus dem angemeldeten Repertoire vor. Der Wettbewerb ist öffentlich und wird im Konzertsaal der UdK Berlin durchgeführt.

Repertoire

The Paula Salomon-Lindberg Competition consists of two parts:

A A cross section of 20th and 21st century Lieder. Each candidate should include in his or her international repertoire at least four composers, with a maximum of three Lieder by each composer (original version voice / piano)*. – 10 Lieder
Excluded are R. Strauss, G. Mahler, H. Pfitzner, O. Schoeck, S. Rachmaninow, A. Berg „Jugendlieder“, „Sieben frühe Lieder”, Max Reger and A. Schönbergs op.1 und 2.

B Lieder composed until 1918, according to a theme defined by the candidate. The repertoire should include a maximum of three Lieder by each composer (German original version voice / piano). – 10 Lieder

Conditions of Participation

Eligible for participation in the competition are students of voice and their student piano accompanists who are enrolled at a music university or similar institution in Europe or Israel at the time of registration. Female singers / pianists must be born after October 13, 1988, while male singers / pianists must be born after October 13, 1986. Pianists who are not registered at a college or university and / or have passed the age limit may be admitted, but will not be eligible for the special prize for best pianist.

The winners of the competition must agree to participate in the final concert on Saturday, October 12, 2019. The program for the final concert will be determined by the jury. All participants must arrive in Berlin no later than Tuesday, October 8, 2019. Participation in the competition will be at your own cost; Berlin University of the Arts cannot pay travel or overnight expenses. We recommend that you book the accommodations in good time.
