About
Consumerism, luxury cars, illegal street races: Kurfürstendamm is synonymous with wealth and speed. But what mechanisms can help us slow down? How do we perceive speed, and how can we deconstruct it through performance and sound? The tension between speed and control in urban space will be explored through multimedia, performance, and sound. In this process, speed cameras on and around the Ku’damm will be (metaphorically) incorporated and modified as functional, technical, and visually charged objects. Through research and experimental interventions, site-specific performances and location-based sound works will emerge. Starting in November 2026, we will meet weekly to work together, discuss, investigate, and engage with experts in the fields of sound mapping, legal counseling, theories of speed, speed camera technology, site-specific performance, dramaturgy, and microcontrolling. Furthermore, we will explore the Ku’damm and take an excursion to a race track or a speed camera test track. The “Kollisionswoche” is conceived as an intensive work week for the project and focuses on the dramaturgical, scenic, and conceptual development of the short performances. The results of this work will be presented during the final presentation of the “Kollisionsprojekte” and made accessible to the public. limits of rush is an interdisciplinary collaborative project initiated by students in the master’s programs in Design and Computation and Music Education at the UdK, as well as in Play and Object at the HfS Ernst Busch. The seminar can be counted toward credit in the aforementioned degree programs as well as in Sound Studies and Theater Education, and is open to interested students from all other disciplines who wish to apply their expertise to the study of speed. Milli Keil, Leon Erhorn, and Marla Gaiser have been working for several years at the intersection of design, art, and the climate crisis through educational formats, workshops, and hands-on practice. Building on their collaborative work in the Klasse Klima collective, they challenge entrenched structures and seek to forge new connections.
