Aribert-Reimann (Stiftung der UdK Berlin)

The foundation Aribert Reimann was established in 2006 and transferred to the UdK Berlin Foundation in 2023. Scholarships are intended to promote contemporary piano song in particular, in the form of scholarships for young composers who graduated from a German or international university no more than three years ago. The scholarship includes the composition of a song cycle for voice and piano. The premieres of these compositions are to be performed by students of the ‘Contemporary Song’ class at the Berlin University of the Arts. The scholarships can also be awarded internationally once a year.

Award guidelines
The scholarship is not publicly advertised; instead, candidates are nominated by recognised experts (composition teachers from German and international music academies) at the request of the Board of Trustees in the winter semester.

The Board of Trustees reviews the candidates' documents and scores.

The candidates' technical skills and the greatest possible flexibility in the treatment of the vocal part, the text and the piano in the available scores play a role in the assessment. Particular emphasis is placed on an imaginative interpretation of the relationship between voice and piano.
