UdK Berlin at Berlin City Cycling 2025: Over 9,000 kilometres for the climate

Once again this year, UdK Berlin took part in Berlin City Cycling. Over a period of three weeks, from May to June, the 35 active team members cycled an impressive 9,000 kilometres together – avoiding almost 1,500 kilograms of CO₂.

Thanks to a particularly committed leading group, our team came in 133rd place among all Berlin teams. The following members stood out:

1st place: Benno Woskowski with an incredible 2,153 kilometres
2nd place: Judith Krick with an impressive 1,217 kilometres
3rd place: Regine Brosius with a proud 754 kilometres
By the way: City Cycling doesn't just count the kilometres travelled on the way to work – all distances cycled during the campaign period are included in the result.

At the administration's barbecue and summer party on 26 June, we took the opportunity to honour Benno Woskowski in person. In addition to the official winner's certificate, he received a goodie bag from the UdK shop – and, of course, we asked him how he achieved this undisputed pole position.

The head of the budget department happened to be spending a seven-week cycling holiday in the USA during this period. Together with a friend, he set off from Atlanta, cycled to the east coast and then continued on to the west coast – covering some sections of the route by car as planned. They cycled over the Rocky Mountains and through snow-covered ski resorts at an impressive average speed of 150 kilometres per day to San Francisco. The personal daily record was even 210 kilometres.

Thanks to the Warm Showers network, which arranges free accommodation for cycle travellers, there were many exciting encounters with local hosts despite the sporting challenge.

Perhaps some of you will now feel inspired to take part in the UdK City Cycling campaign yourself next year – because saving CO₂ together not only makes sense, it's also fun!

By the way: the UdK Berlin City Cycling team, together with 11 other Berlin City Cycling university teams, symbolically donated the kilometres cycled to the #SucheSicherenRadweg team with the aim of drawing attention to the slow expansion of cycling infrastructure in Berlin. More about the kilometre donation here.
