Described as „most promising baroque cellist“ at the International Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2012, Lea Rahel Bader pursues an active international career in the field of early music.

She has appeared at international festivals such as Styriarte Graz, York Early Music Festival, Resonanzen Wien, International Bach Academy Stuttgart, Handel Festival in Göttingen and Halle, Festival de Lausanne and has performed with ensembles including Lautten Compagney, Freiburger Barockorchester, Akademie für Alte Musik, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the European Union Baroque Orchestra.

A sought-after continuo cellist and gamba player, Lea Rahel Bader has played for numerous CD and radio productions with deutsche harmonia mundi, Sony Music, WDR, BR, BBC and radio France. She is featured as soloist on a recording of a cello concerto by Domenico Lanzetti, which she recently rediscovered and recorded with the ensemble Teatro del Mondo under the direction of Andreas Küppers.

Lea Rahel Bader regularly performs music of the 20th and 21st centuries, and has commissioned and premiered many new compositions. She is a member of Ensemble UnitedBerlin, which collaborates intensively with conductor Vladimir Jurowsky and has been performing as Ensemble in Residence at the Konzerthaus Berlin for several years running. She was invited to contemporary music festivals in Korea, Milan, Alaska and Salzburg, and regularly participates in music theatre productions (e.g. with Helmut Oehring).

Both as a soloist and as a chamber musician Lea Rahel Bader has won prizes in various

competitions including the XVIII Biagio Marini Competition in Neuburg (Donau) in 2017, the 2nd Berlin Bach Competition in 2016, the Bach Competition in Leipzig in 2012, and she received the Hanns-Eisler Prize for the interpretation of contemporary music in 2008.

Lea Rahel Bader teaches baroque cello and basso continuo practice for low strings at the Universität der Künste Berlin. She has taught violoncello at the Emanuel- Feuermann Conservatory of the Kronberg Academy and was invited to teach a masterclass at the Hochschule für Musik in Münster in 2017.

Having studied cello in Berlin with Matias de Oliveira Pinto and at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ with Hans-Jakob Eschenburg and Stephan Forck, she received further inspiration from Claudio Bohórquez and Peter Bruns.

Later, she completed her degree in historically informed performance practice at the HfMDK in Frankfurt (Main), where she studied baroque cello with Kristin von der Goltz and Viola da Gamba with Heidi Gröger alongside artistic impulses from Phoebe Carrai, David Watkin, Jaap ter Linden and Paolo Pandolfo.
