Repertoire

The Paula Salomon-Lindberg Competition consists of two parts:

A A cross section of 20th and 21st century Lieder. Each candidate should include in his or her international repertoire at least four composers, with a maximum of three Lieder by each composer (original version voice / piano). Possible are also up to 3 works for voice solo – 10 Lieder* Excluded are R. Strauss, G. Mahler, H. Pfitzner, O. Schoeck, 
S. Rachmaninow, A. Berg "Jugendlieder", "Sieben frühe Lieder", Max Reger and A. Schönbergs op.1 andt 2.

B Lieder in German (original German version, voice/piano), composed up to 1918, compiled under a motto to be chosen and formulated by the participant. The repertoire should contain a maximum of three songs per composer – 10 songs*

Of that repertoire, each candidate will perform a selection chosen by the jury during the rounds of the competition. The competition is open to the public and will be held at the UdK Concert Hall.


*Changes to the repertoire are only possible after consultation with the artistic director.
 

Terms of participation

Eligible for participation in the competition are students of voice and their student piano accompanists who are enrolled at a music university or similar institution in Europe or Israel at the time of registration. Singers  and pianists must be born after October 3, 1992. Pianists who are not registered at a college or university and/or have passed the age limit may be admitted, but will not be eligible for the special prize for best pianist.

The winners of the competition are obliged to participate in the final concert, the program of which will be determined by the jury. Participation in the competition is at the participant's own expense. The Berlin University of the Arts does not cover travel and accommodation expenses. It is recommended to book accommodation in time.

The deadline for registration for the 2024 competition is Monday, January 15, 2024, midnight.

Prizes

A 1st prize of € 3.500
a 2nd prize of € 1.500
a 3rd prize of 1.000 € and 
a special prize for the best pianist of 2.500 €

The jury reserves the right not to award prizes and to distribute the total amount of prizes differently if necessary.
