Jazzinstitut, Georg Neumann Hall

source: Johannes Bock

In January 2009, a highly attractive jazz location was added to Berlin's cultural scene: The Georg Neumann Hall at Charlottenburg’s Einsteinufer. The Hall belongs to the JIB, or Jazz-Institute Berlin, which regularly hosts concerts, jazz sessions, and workshops by and with international stars of the jazz scene, as well as the Institute’s students. The building itself, which was originally used as a cinema, was modified and expanded based on plans developed by the architectural office of Philip Engelbrecht. It now houses the Inter-University Centre for Jazz Berlin, a joint project of the UdK Berlin and the Academy of Music “Hanns Eisler” Berlin. The Georg Neumann Hall, within the building, has been fitted with the latest technology in cooperation with the Sennheiser Group; together with a large recording studio it forms the centerpiece of the Jazz Institute. The Georg Neumann Hall is now available for public concerts and events in the Berlin jazz scene. Collaborations between the JIB and other Berlin jazz event organizers are in the works.
