About INTER
About INTER
INTER is aimed at students in the master’s programs at the Berlin University of the Arts who wish to fulfill the interdisciplinary requirements of their curriculum through interdisciplinary courses and projects. INTER is also aimed at faculty members in the master’s programs at the Berlin University of the Arts who wish to implement interdisciplinary teaching projects across disciplines or collaboratively with colleagues and students. INTER supports interdisciplinary teaching projects in the master’s programs at the Berlin University of the Arts through annual project calls and, if applicable, semester-based calls, which are published on this website. The goal of INTER is to motivate and promote interdisciplinary work in the master’s programs and to anchor it sustainably within the course of study.
INTER (Interdisciplinary Navigation and Transformation as Educational Reform) is an academic development program at the Berlin University of the Arts (2025–2029) funded by the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre. INTER aims at enabling independent, research-oriented, flexible, and advanced interdisciplinary study within the Master’s programs and creating flexible structures to support this.
INTER is led by Prof. Marion Hirte, the First Vice President of UdK Berlin.
What are the benefits of INTER?
If you want to experiment with cross-disciplinary topics and collaboration methods during your master’s studies or in a master’s course, or if you want to design and implement an interdisciplinary course or project – either on your own or in collaboration with other students and faculty members at the UdK, if you enjoy working in an experimental and interdisciplinary manner and wish to do so as part of your regular studies or teaching, and if your career prospects require flexible creativity and problem-solving strategies, then INTER provides a potentially interesting context for you.
In an INTER project, participants can earn ECTS credits as part of their master’s program, typically 4 credits, and potentially more after consultation with the module coordinators of the participating programs. The specific number of credits awarded is based on the respective study regulations and the number of credit points allocated for the elective-required component. All INTER projects are professionally evaluated for the quality of their interdisciplinary work, both during the project and at its conclusion.
How long does a course or project in INTER last, and who can participate?
INTER supports courses and projects that run alongside the degree program and is integrated into the curricula of the master’s programs: As a result, INTER projects typically last one to two semesters, though project series spanning multiple semesters are also possible in principle. As interdisciplinary courses bridge different programs and fields of studies, they are open and freely selectable by all UdK master’s students. Depending on the nature of the project, they may also be open to bachelor’s students and students in other undergraduate programs.
