Orientation

What might an interdisciplinary course look like?
INTER supports projects and teaching concepts in which students and teachers from different disciplines collaborate, thereby creating opportunities for role-swapping and shifts in perspective regarding their own fields. Collaborations between practical and theoretical disciplines and/or the convergence of diverse expertise from the arts and sciences are very welcome.
Innovative methods such as co-teaching, teach-the-teacher, teach-back, and other forms of dynamic hierarchies offer opportunities to integrate the interdisciplinary quality and flexibility of learning into the teaching process.
Courses and projects typically conclude with a presentation at public events, at least within the UdK context like at the "Kollisionen", or at least with an accessible print or digital documentation.
The INTER project is generally credited with 4 ECTS in consultation with the participating degree programs.

How can INTER’s infrastructure be of use to you?
If your project is selected for funding by INTER, you will receive support from the INTER project team throughout the entire process. This includes organizational assistance, administrative support and guidance, help finding suitable spaces as well as the evaluation and documentation of your courses and projects. The funding is administered by the INTER Coordination Office. This means that all project-related contracts, orders, procurements, etc., are arranged through the INTER Coordination Office.

What can be applied for through INTER?
INTER primarily provides funding for personnel support, mediation, and coaching. You can apply for fees for project-specific experts - including external experts if needed - but you can also apply for fees for supervision or coaching of your projects. (When planning, we recommend that you speak with the individuals of your choice and/or the project team early on to clarify availability in a timely manner.)
Funds are also available for study trips necessary for the project or travel expenses for freelance staff, as well as, to a limited extent, for material costs.

How much funding can I apply for, and how can the funds be used?
In the current second call for projects for the academic year of 2026/2027, funding under the INTER program is limited to a maximum of 12,000 € per project, with teaching assignments and honoraria totaling up to 9,000 € and costs for travel and supplies totaling up to 3,000 € per project.

How are projects selected?

Contribution to interdisciplinary teaching, artistic practice, and research
Projects are selected based on their contribution to interdisciplinary research and artistic practice, teaching and learning concepts, feasibility within a single semester, and sustainability following the project’s completion. The Curatorial Board makes decisions in consultation with the project leadership and consists of faculty members and students from UdK Berlin.

Evaluation and Documentation
A necessary precondition for funding from INTER is that the project will be evaluated by the participants, with a focus on the quality of the project work, feasibility of the study, workflow, and personal learning gains.

Diversity of social and cultural experiences and forms of knowledge
INTER is committed to the principles set forth in the UdK’s Critical Diversity Policy and expects the same from the projects it supports.
UdK Berlin raises awareness among its members and protects them from discrimination and exclusion. Discrimination is counteracted and its occurrence is prevented. Conditions are created to ensure that the existing diversity of social and cultural experiences and forms of knowledge is reflected at the UdK Berlin. Critical Diversity Policy – Universität der Künste Berlin.

Sustainability Focus
The project will be assessed for its environmental impact and sustainability. In addition to a cost estimate, a sustainability assessment covering travel, partnerships, and materials is required for the application.
