Critical Diversity Policy

On December 7, 2022, the Critical Diversity Policy – Concept for Anti-Discrimination and Diversity at UdK Berlin was unanimously endorsed by the Academic Senate of UdK Berlin after many years of intensive work by a wide range of stakeholders and committees, and was published in the UdK Gazette on March 22, 2023.

Based on an analysis of the current situation, this concept for anti-discrimination and diversity outlines key areas for action and identifies concrete measures aimed at making UdK Berlin a more diversity-sensitive and discrimination-critical university of the arts. The goal is to embrace the diversity of the people who work and study at the UdK Berlin and to support their creative expression. In the spirit of equal opportunities, accessibility is also to be increased for those who wish to study or work at the university. UdK Berlin raises awareness among its members and protects them from discrimination and exclusion. Discrimination is actively countered and prevented. Conditions are created to ensure that the existing diversity of social and cultural experiences and forms of knowledge can be represented at UdK Berlin.

Steering Group Critical Diversity Policy

The Steering Group was developed as part of the action planning of the Critical Diversity Policy by the Commission for Equal Opportunities (KfC) in collaboration with the university management and has been meeting twice per semester since October 30, 2024.

Its task is to oversee the implementation of the Critical Diversity Policy under the coordination of the Diversity Officer (DiB) and the chairperson of the Commission for Equal Opportunities (KfC). As an advisory body without voting rights, the Steering Group adopts resolutions that serve as a basis for decision-making but are not binding for the university management. The implementation of measures takes place within the Central University Administration, staff units, faculties, and through representative bodies. The Commission for Equal Opportunities (KfC) develops updates to the measures of the Critical Diversity Policy every two years for approval by the Academic Senate. The contact persons for the Diversity Policy in the faculties, centers, and institutes are employees of UdK Berlin and are appointed by their respective units. They support the implementation of the Critical Diversity Policy.

Training is offered to all members of the Steering Group and the contact persons.

Diversity Policy Contact Persons (AP Div)

The Diversity Policy Contact Persons (AP Div) assume an informative and mediating role within their respective faculties and institutes in the context of implementing the university’s Critical Diversity Policy.

Their task is to regularly assess the status of implementation of measures in their areas, compile relevant information, and forward it to the Steering Group of the Critical Diversity Policy.

The contact persons do not act as commissioners and do not provide advisory services.

The aim of this role is to ensure a transparent flow of information between faculties or institutes and the Steering Group, to make progress and existing challenges visible, and thereby contribute to the continuous development of the university’s diversity strategy.

The contact persons hold their position for two years, meet regularly, and receive training twice a year.
