Reading on 17 June with Dr Marion Kraft
On Wednesday 17 June, Dr Marion Kraft read from her novel “Weltenwechsel” in the Charlotte-Salomon-Saal.
Alejandra Nieves Camacho opened the evening with a welcome speech. Marion Kraft and the presenter, Georgina Fakunmoju, engaged in a thought-provoking discussion. The perfectly attuned duo discussed various facets of the novel’s protagonist, whilst Marion Kraft gave us a deep insight into her decision-making processes.
The novel “Weltenwechsel” is a literary exploration of a chapter of German history that has received little attention to date. It tells the story, with expertise and sensitivity, of Julia, who grows up in post-war Germany as the child of a Black US soldier and a white mother, and who seeks her own empowering path in life.
A quick tip: anyone interested in Afro-German history can listen to the conversation between Marion Kraft and Georgina Fakunmoju on the topic in the “Readers gonna Read” podcast.
About the action day
The event was part of the action day #wessenfreiheit (whose freedom?), a nationwide day of action organised by art universities. Every year since 2018, #wessenfreiheit has been organised at art academies to address institutional and social power in the art system.
